Monsoon on the Konkan coast is dramatic, green, and best experienced from somewhere dry with something warm.
What the rain does to your appetite
Humidity drops and the air turns cool. Suddenly the light, cold things that made sense in April do not, and you want something warm and slower.
What to order
Coconut Curry Soup — the obvious monsoon starter. Warm, coconut-based, gentle.
Prawn Caldine — mild Goan-style coconut curry. Comfort food that still tastes of this coast.
Crab Curry — the right dish for a rainy afternoon precisely because it takes a long time to eat.
Masala Omelette — if it is morning and the rain has cancelled your plans, this and a coffee is a good outcome.
Cold Brew or Mango Lassi — worth knowing the zero-proof list is there.
Where to sit
Open-air is at its best in monsoon if it has proper cover. You want the sound and the smell of the rain without sitting in it.
The monsoon advantage
Fewer people. Tables you would not get in December. An unhurried afternoon watching it come down is genuinely one of the better ways to spend a day here.
We stay open 8:30am to 11pm through the season.
