More people are working a few days a month from Alibaug. It works, with caveats.
What works well
The commute. A ferry beats a highway, and beats a Mumbai commute entirely.
Mornings are productive. Quiet, cool, and nobody is messaging yet. Get up early and use them.
The pace helps. Concentration is easier here than in the city.
What to plan for
Connectivity varies. Villa wifi ranges from excellent to theoretical. Have mobile data as backup and check before you commit to a call schedule.
Power cuts happen, particularly in monsoon. Charge things when you can.
Heat affects concentration in summer afternoons more than people expect.
Building a day around it
Work early. Break in the middle when it is hottest. Pick up again late afternoon. Stop at sunset — genuinely, that is the best hour here and working through it defeats the purpose.
Somewhere that is not the villa
Working from the same room you sleep in gets old by day two. Somewhere else for a few hours helps.
We open at 8:30am with proper brewed coffee — breakfast runs to noon — and stay open all day, so a long morning with a laptop is entirely reasonable.
